Walking Stupidity in Austin
Journal – 2008.10.27, Wednesday – Walking Stupidity in Austin
I am in Austin, TX with my friend Troll. We got here Sunday evening, and will leave Wednesday evening. He was planning on me being a designated driver. However, I do not currently have a drivers license; the rental company would not put me on as a driver. So, I am on vacation and he is working.
I didn’t get ready in time and I asked to not wait for me and arrive to work tardy. Needles to say, I had to walk to my destinations inside Austin.
I took off at ten in the morning from the hotel on 919 East Koenig Lane in Austin, TX. I planned on heading to either Starbucks on 1201 Barbara Jordan Blvd or Epoch Coffee on 221 W North Loop Blvd. My penultimate destination would have been a bit South at Dolce Vita Gelato & Espresso on 4222 Duval Street; ending at Copper Tank Brewing Company on 504 Trinity Street.
So, Then heading South I got walking directions from the front desk and began heading correctly. However, I begin to get impatient and ask some where is the intersection of Chesterfied and 56th. The didn’t recognize those streets. I then asked for directions to “the university” thinking that the University Of Texas Intramural Field is right next to Epoch. But, she sent me East on 51st St. I felt that my destination was Southwest of where I began. When I turn around I went South on 290/35 and didn’t stop until I hit 21st St. I had marked on my hand scrawled map that if I hit 42nd St., I had gone too far. But, I no longer trusted it. Somehow, I ended up on Red River and at half-past noon I entered It's A Grind Coffee House on 1000 E 41st Street, where I am typing now and plan on staying until Troll picks me up.
For lunch, I ate one of the military MRE’s that I had. Amazingly, no one noticed the boiling bag of liquid out on the patio. But the is Austin not Boston.
